NaNoWriMo

For writers, November means one thing: National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo. The idea is, you write every day, all month, and at the end, you have 50,000 words. A full novel. Or, at least a very good start to one.

I participate in NaNoWriMo most years. I’ve won a few times. (Winning means you hit at least 50,000 by the end of the month.) And all of my winners have been or are about to be published. Not bad.

But this year is different. I’m writing a kissing book. Yeah, yeah, most of my books have smooches in them, but the smooches are the sub-plot. This time, I’m writing an honest-to-goodness romance novel. (Insert silent scream here) Sure, it’ll be sci-fi because I can’t help myself, but the romance will take center stage.

The other way this year is different is my plotting. I’m usually a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants writer, but since I’m out of my element with the romance aspect this time around, I turned to the advice found in Romancing the Beat. That book was worth every penny. If you plan to write romance, I highly recommend it.

Anyway, I’m super excited about this book. I even have three other books in the series noodling around in my head. Each book will be a standalone, but set in the same world. My brain is spinning with ideas and, let me tell you, there’s no better feeling for a writer.

I hope you’re having a lovely day. Now, go read a book!
